A TOP north Derbyshire engineering company hosted an open day with school pupils to encourage them to consider careers in industry and business.

United Cast Bar Ltd, on Spital Lane, Chesterfield, welcomed children from the town’s Parkside Community School, who learned how the company makes cast iron products for industry and markets its products.

Company spokesman David Beat said: “We like to take time to introduce ourselves to youngsters and hope visits might spark an interest in engineering and business.”

The youngsters from Parkside Community School, on Boythorpe Avenue, Chesterfield, visited the site on Thursday, March 22.

They enjoyed talking to staff and learned how the company’s ordering and sales departments’ operate.

Mr Beat added: “The majority of our products are exported so the youngsters learned how they could use different skills in a global industry.”
