FIREFIGHTERS and an ambulance crew rescued a male casualty from the wreckage of a car after the vehicle came off the M1 motorway and crashed in a field.

The saloon car was travelling along the M1 northbound carriageway between Junctions 28 and 29, near Tibshelf, about 6am, today, May 12, when the collision happened.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The car left the carriageway and was found about 60 metres away in a field with one male casualty trapped.

“Firefighters assisted an ambulance crew by removing the roof of the vehicle and extricating the casualty.”

Chesterfield and Alfreton firefighters were called out to the incident and made the area safe within 45 minutes.

Derbyshire Constabulary was also present during the rescue and witnesses are urged to call the police appeal line on (01773) 572929 or the police road traffic unit on 0345 123 3333 to help establish exactly what happened.
