Michael Topley claims he has not been able to see his GP at Blue Dykes Surgery in Eldon Street, Clay Cross, for the past year.

Mr Topley, of Pencroft Drive, Danesmoor, also says there are severe problems booking appointments at the surgery.

The 30-year-old, who has set up a petition to raise awareness about the issue, said: “I’ve told them I want to see my personal doctor – not a locum – because he knows about my medical history and I feel comfortable with him. I quite often ring them at 7.55am and am on the phone until 9am but still can’t get an appointment.

“It’s just not good enough – we’re talking about people’s health here.

“There should be more staff at the surgery.”

A spokesman for NHS England said they were “concerned” to hear about Mr Topley’s comments.

The spokesman added: “In the first instance Mr Topley is encouraged to contact NHS England on 0300 311 2233 to register his concerns.

“Then we can follow up these concerns to ensure steps are taken to improve access for patients to GP services in the area.”

More than 30 people have signed Mr Topley’s petition.
