LOVE bloomed by letter for two former penpals who are preparing to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary,
Jack and Kath Bradley, of Holme Hall in Chesterfield, will mark their 60th year as a married couple this Saturday, July 30.
They first got in touch through penny magazine ‘The Catholic Fireside’ when they both signed up to be penpals.
After exchanging several letters, they decided to meet in Sheffield and it was love at first sight. A six-month courtship led to engagement.
They waited for three years until Kath’s father had completed his service in the NAAFI then tied the knot at Holy Rood Church in Barnsley, settling in Jack’s home town of Chesterfield.
Both Jack, 89, and Kath, 86, are keen Derbyshire Times readers. Former long distance lorry driver Jack worked for Reema in Chesterfield and Kath was a school secretary.
They have a daughter Pat and three sons Michael, Chris and Paul, as well as three grandchildren Andrew, David and Ruth and great-grandson Christopher.
Jack regularly visits ill patients as a devoted member of the St Vincent de Paul Society, an international Christian voluntary organisation that helps people in need.
Kath is devoted to her family and loves spending time with them.
