Matlock Rotary President Jonathan Short was pleased to welcome Paul Foulkes of Prostate Cancer UK to Matlock Golf Club for a buffet supper followed by the presentation of a cheque in the sum of £3,100.

The money was raised at the Matlock Rotary Golf Day held at the Golf Club where over thirty teams competed for a selection of prizes.

President Jonathan took the opportunity of thanking the Golf Club, the staff and all who participated in the event for making the day such a success.

Paul Foulkes, who has personal experience of the effects and consequences of Prostate Cancer, thanked the club on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK. He then gave an interesting talk about the work of the charity and its three key objectives - the support of individuals, the funding of research and efforts to increase awareness and ensure that men consult their doctor as soon as they have a concern.

President Jonathan commented on the fact that one in eight males contract prostate cancer. He thanked Paul for telling club about his own experiences in both an informative and entertaining and on occasions, a very moving way.

The clubs plan to hold a Golf Day in 2015 and full details together with details of all our other events can be found on the website.
