Matlock: Peak Rail takes you back to the 1940s

Organisers of a vintage-themed event have said it was a bumper turnout for visitors.

The sights and sounds of yesteryear came alive as Peak Rail hosted its annual 1940s weekend at Rowsley Station.

There were military displays with re–enactors setting up camp opposite the locomotive sheds in an area that represented occupied France, which senes from both the Home Front and mainland Europe were acted out in the car park of the station itself.

Peak Rail joint managing director, Jackie Statham, said: “The degree of success of this year’s 1940s weekend was a great surprise. The large variety of entertainment laid on ensured that there was plenty for people to see and do without getting wet.”
