Man 'slashed across face' in Chesterfield town centre fight

A man has been taken to hospital after he was slashed across the face in Chesterfield town centre.

Police were called to reports of two men fighting on Knifesmithgate at around 9.30pm last night (Wednesday, October 25).

A 29-year-old man from the Chesterfield area was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital and then on to the Royal Hallamshire where he was treated for cut wounds to his face.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Horrified members of the public who witnessed the incident called and ambulance for the injured man and paramedics then informed police.

When officers arrived, one of the men had left the scene, leaving the 29-year-old seriously injured.

An investigation has begun and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
