AN INVESTIGATION is taking place after a man died following an incident in a bar.

James Gaunt, 48, was involved in a fight on the dancefloor of the Crib Bar in Church Street, Ripley, last Friday night and later died in hospital.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and have arrested two men in connection with the incident while a third man voluntarily went to the police station the next day.

Two men have since been released without charged and a third, 33, has been bailed while officers make further enquiries.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said that on the night a fight had broken out on the dancefloor involving Mr Gaunt.

They added that it is believed Mr Gaunt, of Loscoe, suffered a heart attack 15 minutes afterwards while stood in a bar outside area.

He died later that night after being taken to Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Police cordoned off the bar for most of Saturday while investigations continued.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 0345 123 33 33 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
