A 74-year-old man suffered a serious fracture to his hip after falling at a Peak District beauty spot.

Nineteen members of Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were called to the Speedwell Cavern Car Park in Castleton on Thursday, June 7 around 5pm.

The man from the Bury area was hill walking with his daughter and slipped and fell six metres, in a gully between Long Cliff and Cow Low.

He was treated on site by a doctor and paramedics and placed on a stretcher.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “This was an operation involving four agencies working together in appalling weather to recover a badly injured gentleman from a difficult location.”
