A MAN who launched a drunken attack on his partner at her Chesterfield home is behind bars.

Mark Greaves grabbed Cassey Smith’s throat and tried to strangle her before punching her head, town magistrates heard.

She locked him outside and he kicked the door and smashed a panel in it with a brick.

Greaves, 25, currently in prison on remand for breaching a community sentence, admitted charges of assault and damage at an address in Danby Avenue, Old Whittington. He was jailed for 12 weeks and given a restraining order banning him from contacting Ms Smith for a year. He said: “I’m not really bothered. I just want to get this over and done with. She keeps contacting me saying everything’s going to be OK when I get out.”
