Man assaulted and robbed for his cigarettes in Eckington

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and had his cigarettes stolen in Eckington.

The incident happened on Hornthorpe Road on Wednesday, June 1.

At about 5pm a 23-year-old man was walking along the road towards the crossroads with Pitt Street and Setcup Lane when he was approached by three youths in a small green car, Derbyshire police said.

At the crossroads he was allegedly assaulted by the driver and one passenger from the car and his cigarettes were stolen.

A 17-year-old youth from Sheffield has been charged with robbery. He appeared before magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Saturday (June 4).

The victim sustained minor injuries.
