British Transport Police said they were called to the line shortly after 9.20pm yesterday evening (Monday, March 27) alongside paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service.

They said: "A 63-year-old man has sadly died after he was struck by a train on the railway line near South Wingfield in Derbyshire.

"The man's family have been told. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Derbyshire County Council Coroners Service confirmed the death has been reported - an inquest opening will be set in due course.
