Winter drivers benefit from online advice

A website offering winter driving advice has been welcomed by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership.

Created by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, the website explains how to cope with the challenges associated with winter driving.

Topics covered include journey planning, getting your car ready for winter, medicines that can affect your driving and staying in control when it’s foggy, rainy, icy or snowing.

Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “Road users are at greater risk when there’s wintry weather.

“Commuters are more likely to be travelling in the dark and frosty conditions make journeys more difficult.

“When snow is forecast, motorists should avoid unnecessary trips and consider using public transport where possible.”

He added: “It pays to be prepared and the IAM’s website explains simple steps you can take to help you stay safe.”

The address of the IAM’s winter driving website is www.drivingadvice.org.uk

During the summer, the same website was used to provide advice about the challenges of driving in hot weather.
