WALKERS are being urged to put their best feet forward and boost their health with a free walking group.

Places are available on a series of groups which run across North East Derbyshire.

New members are particularly sought for the groups which run in Dronfield, Eckington and Unstone.

Cllr Graham Baxter leader of the council, said: “The project continues to be a real success – but we always welcome new members to come along and give it a try.

“Walking in a group is a great way to make new friends, discover new places in your neighbourhood and feel better for being more active. It’s also free and there’s no need to book.”

The council teamed up with Natural England to launch the free Walking for Health groups across the district in 2010, as part of a country-wide initiative to get the nation moving.

The project has since been hailed a huge success with hundreds of people signed up to the weekly sessions which run at 11 locations across the district.

The Walking for Health group in Dronfield meets at the sports centre every Friday – two to three miles walk from 1.30pm to 2.30pm, followed by refreshments at 2.30pm.

Unstone Walking for Health Group meets at Unstone Community Hall on Crow Lane every Wednesday – two to three mile walk from 10am to 11am. Refreshments are available from 9.30am

Eckington Walking for Health Group meets at Eckington Library, every Saturday – two to three mile walk from 10am to 11am. Refreshments are available from 9.30am in the upstairs meeting room.

The project is funded by NHS Derbyshire County.
