Waiting game for Clay Cross revamp bid
Council leaders are waiting to see if plans for a multi-million pound town centre redevelopment will be delayed by landowners objecting to the compulsory purchase of their properties.
Compulsory purchase orders have been made on more than 40 properties in the Bridge Street area of Clay Cross as part of plans for a 22m redevelopment of the town centre.
Those affected by the orders had until Monday to formally object to the Secretary of State and NE Derbyshire District Council is now waiting to find out if the Government has received any objections.
A spokeswoman for the council said: "NE Derbyshire District Council is currently waiting to learn whether there have been any objections to the recent compulsory purchase order issued by the council in Clay Cross town centre.
"Under the CPO process, any objections to a CPO are sent direct to the secretary of state and not to the authority that issued the order.
"The council intends to issue further information regarding the CPOs once all the relevant details have been received from the secretary of state."
The planned redevelopment – which is a joint scheme between the council and developers GMI Rovinian – will feature a massive Tesco supermarket, a new GP surgery and a new bus station.
