Tories top East Midlands poll
East Midlands Conservatives were celebrating as they topped the poll in the East Midlands constitutency of the European elections.
The Tories polled 370,275 - 3.8% up on their 2004 share of the vote - to retain their two seats in the parliament.
Labour saw the votes cast for them drop by 4.1% to 206,945 but held on to their one seat which goes to Glenis Wilmott.
It was not such a good night for UKIP in the East Midlands as in 2004. Their share of the vote went down by 9.6% to 201,984 and they lost one of their two seats to the Lib Dems polled 151,428 (up 0.6%).
In all 1,228,065 people voted in the East Midlands - 37% of the 3,312,914 electorate.
MEPs elected were: TORIES - Roger Helmer, Emma McClarkin; LABOUR - Glenis Wilmott; UKIP - Derek Clark; LIB DEMS - Bill Newton Dunn.
