Tories take control of Derbyshire

The Tories have swept to power in Derbyshire - taking overall control from Labour for the first time in 28 years.

They gained 19 seats to now have 33 councillors on the authority while Labour lost 16 and now have just 21 members. The Lib Dems have 8 councillors and there is one Independent.

The Kirk Hallam election was put back to July 16 because of the sudden death of one of the candidates.

High profile Labour candidates to lose their seats included Geoff

Carlisle, Joyce Sanders and Charles Cutting.
