HARD-WORKING students and teachers are celebrating the release of “very positive” Government school league tables.
Data for 2011 reveal 58.4 per cent of Derbyshire secondary school pupils achieved five or more A-star to C grades at GCSE – including English and maths.
The figure is slightly above the national average and is a five per centage point increase on last year.
In A-level results, 95.7 per cent of Derbyshire students attained two or more passes – higher than the countrywide average.
An impressive 82 per cent of GCSE pupils at St Mary’s Catholic High School, on Newbold Road, Chesterfield, achieved five or more A-star to C marks – while 98 per cent of students attained three A levels.
Headteacher Sean McClafferty said: “I’m absolutely delighted and so proud. These results are testament to the hard work of our pupils and staff.”
Meanwhile, all year-six pupils at 14 Derbyshire primary schools – including Ashover Primary School, Curbar Primary School and Grindleford Primary School – attained the highest level in English and maths.
Derbyshire County Council’s education chief, Cllr Mike Longden, said: “These league tables have confirmed another year of much-improved performance across Derbyshire.
“This is very positive news and shows that Derbyshire pupils are making the best of the excellent opportunities offered by our schools.
“I’d like to congratulate students, parents, staff and governors for their hard work and success. We’ll continue to build on our achievements.”
