Tecahers hold two-day strike

Teachers are holding a two-day strike over a controversial new appraisal policy.

Seven teachers from Dunston Primary School took industrial action today and will strike again tomorrow.

The strike centres on an “intrusive” new appraisal scheme which includes more teacher observations.

The school has defended the Government policy – saying it is in the interests of pupils and teachers.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “We met with union representatives and the school on Monday to try to help them resolve the situation but two days of strike action are planned for November 27 and 28.

“The school has put measures in place to minimise disruption to pupils’ work and has contacted parents to update them.

“We’re continuing to work with the school and union to do everything possible to support them in reaching a solution to prevent further strike action.”
