Winning ways&staff from Bentinck Ward at Bolsover Hospital have earned a Team of the Year 2011 title from their colleagues at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust. In the past year they have introduced many improvements which are benefiting patients, including better care planning which is reducing the length of time patients need to stay on the ward.

THESE dedicated nurses have been named as being the best at what they do by their peers.

The staff, pictured left, from the Bentinck Ward, Bolsover Hospital were named as joint overall 2011 Team of the Year, for their dedicated care along with staff from the Specialist Learning Disability Services at Ash Green Learning Disability Centre in Ashgate in the Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust awards.

The awards, where winners are nominated by their colleagues, saw staff from the north of the county, beating stiff competition across the 5,000-strong Trust.

The county’s Stop Smoking Service won the Going the Extra Mile Award for their Chesterfield market stall initiative, which has proved effective in taking help and advice out to people who want to quit.

There was also a gong for The Children and Young People’s Health Promotion Team which spearheaded an initiative in Bolsover to help parents answer their children’s awkward questions about sex and relationships. Their work earned them first place in the Putting Patients First Award.

Special awards also went to behind-the-scenes grounds, gardens and catering teams across the area covered by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, which runs a 24/7 service to keep patients comfortable, safe, warm and well-fed, including at Walton Hospital, Bolsover Hospital and Ash Green Learning Disability Centre.
