Stop bullying! As easy as ABC

Local schools have been recognised for their anti-bullying work at a celebration in Matlock.

Derbyshire County Council presented awards to schools taking part in its Anti-Bullying Commitment (ABC) scheme and pupils put on a showcase of their anti-bullying work at the County Hall event.

The ABC scheme has been running for 13 years – helping schools to introduce strategies which prevent and deal with bullying issues.

Excellence awards were received by Ripley Junior School and Shirland Primary School; intermediate awards were received by Blackwell Primary School and Wessington Primary School; Mickley Infant School received both the intermediate and initial awards and South Wingfield Primary School received an initial award.

All schools signing up to the ABC scheme receive a pack which provides them with a blueprint for developing anti-bullying initiatives.

They develop their own anti-bullying strategies based on ideas in the scheme. A version of the ABC scheme is also used in children's homes and youth centres.
