STAVELEY: Motorist’s drink-drive offence after row
From the courts
A MOTORIST who took the wheel of a vehicle following a family row had drunk more than double the legal limit.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how police in Brimington, on New Year’s Eve, saw a Citroen C5 weaving and cutting corners at low speed. They stopped the car and said driver Michael Saint smelled of alcohol.
Becky Mahon, prosecuting, said Saint, 45, of Whitehead Street, Lowgates, Staveley gave a reading of 81mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath - the limit being 35mcgs.
He admitted drink-driving and was fined £385 with £85 costs. His 18-month driving ban will be cut by a quarter if he passes a drink-driving rehabilitation course. Saint said he “stormed out” following an argument. He added the ban would make it harder for him to travel to work.
