Siege case man to face fresh trial
A Matlock man accused of threatening to destroy his house during a nine-hour stand-off with police is to face a fresh trial later this year.
Earlier this week a jury began hearing the case of Christopher Judd, who allegedly brandished weapons during a siege at his home.
But the trial at Derby Crown Court was halted for legal reasons on its second day after it emerged that the jury might be "contaminated".
Recorder Nirmal Shant QC, ordering a new trial to take place at the same court on June 30, told 44-year-old Judd: "This trial cannot go on.
"In fairness to you, you should have a jury that is not contaminated by information that comes from anything other than the evidence."
