Sick mobility firm boss is behind bars

The boss of two former mobility firms who admitted conning elderly Derbyshire victims out of more than £40,000 has been jailed.
Fifty-one-year-old Amarjit Gill and wife Ranjit Gill, of Brackenfield Drive, Giltbrook, Nottingham, ran firms called Virgo Healthcare and Lifestyle from Gainsborough Business Park, Long Eaton.
The pair previously admitted 25 charges of fraud which saw them amass £42,215.
Staff sold mobility aids including reclining chairs, orthopaedic beds and walk-in showers to elderlyDerbyshire buyers throughhome visits after ‘coldcalling’ them.
Some of the victims were not given a refund despite cancelling the orders during the legal seven-day ‘cooling off’ period.
In the worst cases, the goods weren’t even delivered.
A judge branded Amarjit Gill’s actions “disgraceful” as he sentenced him to 18 months at Leicester Crown Court.
Ranjit Gill, 45, was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 200 hours’ of unpaid work.
Both were banned from being company directors for five years.
David Messom, 27, of Maws Lane, Kimberley, Nottingham, and Samuel Routh, 26, of Wilkinson Close, Chilwell, Nottingham, were employed by the Gills as managers. Messom was sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years, with 200 hours’ unpaid work, for nine fraud charges. Routh was sentenced to nine months, suspended for two years, with 180 hours’ unpaid work for eight fraud charges.
