A PROUD grandmother has celebrated her 105th birthday with telegrams from the Queen and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith.
Kate Gee, of New Bassett House , Shirebrook, was also joined by family and friends during her special day on January 4.
Granddaughter Angela Aldred said: “She’s a typical loving grandma. She’s very loving, kind and gentle and loves being with people.
“Everybody outside of family who knows her thinks of her as Auntie Kate because she’s so friendly and sociable.”
Mrs Gee worked as a housemaid until she was married in 1928 to her late husband Ernest and went on to have a son Doug, who has sadly passed away, and she has another granddaughter Karan and had a grandson Andrew, who has also sadly passed away, and she has a great grandson Gavin.
To celebrate her special day, Mrs Gee was treated to a cake, presents and enjoyed a telephone call with her sister Gladys Charles, who is 103 years-old and lives in Shrewsbury.
Mrs Aldred added: “She is a very religious lady and has always had links with Doe Lea Methodist Chapel and she used to enjoy travelling a lot especially on the buses.
“She’s still very interested in everything that’s going on in everyone’s lives and she loves keeping up with current affairs.
“She’s also a big fan of the Royals and was delighted to get another telegram of the Queen after receiving her first during her 100th birthday.”
