A Shire horse-drawn hearse carried a well-known Derbyshire man to his final resting place.

Colin Charlesworth, of Barlow, died at home aged 86 on November 4.

His funeral took place on November 14 in Chesterfield.

Mr Charlesworth moved to Derbyshire in 1975 to work at Ambrose Shire horse stud farm in Cutthorpe.

He featured several times in the Derbyshire Times over the years, including in 1974 when he was pictured with a rare set of Shire horse twins.

He was also pictured at Bakewell Show in 1974 and in the fields at the stud farm with 12 foals in 1975.

Wife Linda, 66, said: “Colin worked with horses all his life.

“The funeral was a fitting tribute and the horses stole the show.”

Colin retired in 1988.

The horses at his funeral were provided by Whiteborough Carriages in Sutton-in-Ashfield

He leaves widow Linda and sons Colin and Ellis, daughter-in-law Rebecca and grandchildren Rory and Elizabeth.
