A group of elderly residents from Fairfield were treated to a Christmas dinner and mini-concert at Fairfield Endowed C of E Junior School.

They enjoyed a festive lunch before about 50 children took centre stage for a carol performance.

The group were also given gifts from both the school and High Peak Community Housing.

The event, which was the first of its kind at the school, was such a hit that head teacher Vicky Giliker said it could become an annual fixture.

She said: “We had a Jubilee party for a group of local residents earlier in the year but this event was the first one we have held for Christmas. It was great – the children really enjoyed themselves and the elderly people seemed to have a brilliant time as well.”

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team helped organise the event, including PCSO Michaela Daniels, who said: “We wanted to organise an event for elderly residents to get out and soak up some of the Christmas spirit – and there was plenty of that at the junior school.

“Hopefully it will have been the first of many similar events to come,” she added.
