Two High Peak women have raised over £10,000 for charity by running 190 miles in a week.

Philomena Smith, from Whaley Bridge, and Sarah Bull, from New Mills, ran from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood Bay in North Yorkshire to raise money for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Both Philomena and Sarah have lost a loved one to lung cancer, Philomena lost her mother in 2012 and Sarah, her best friend in 2008.

Philomena said: “On day two after five and a half hours of running, we still had 11 miles to go and I just thought I am not fit enough for this. Luckily we had each other and laughter which got us through when I think so many may have given up.”

Sarah added: “I am surprised that we could still walk by the end. Completing this challenge is a memory that will be with us forever and I’m so pleased and proud that we were able to finish it together in memory of two amazing women.”
