STUDENTS from Buxton College have raised £2,500 for the charity When You Wish Upon a Star after holding their annual Run, Ride, Row challenge.

This year, the 75 Uniformed Public Services and Sports BTEC National Diplomas students were given some added motivation to go the extra mile for the charity challenge by Olympic Gold Medal winning rower Anna Watkins, who dropped by to cheer them on.

They completed over 1,500 miles rowing and cycling on stationary machines and running around the Buxton Dome, keeping up continuous activity for the full 24-hour period.

Richard Robinson, Lecturer on the Uniformed Public Services course, said: “We are delighted to have raised a record amount for charity this year. “The students all put their hearts into it, and we are very proud of them.”

When You Wish Upon A Star aims to grant the wishes of children suffering from life threatening illnesses.

Donations can still be made by contacting Richard on 01332 594493 or visiting www.justgiving.com/BuxtonCollegeTeam.
