Record crowds for May Day fun
A record-breaking number of visitors flocked to Ashover for the village's 14th annual May Day carnival.
Around 4,000 people descended on the village for an action-packed programme of colourful, charity fund-raising events including musicians, maypole dancers and a family fun run.
More than 30 village organisations and local charities also lined the streets selling a wide variety of products.
Local characters were also surprised when their portraits were secretly painted by members of Ashover Art Club and then sold to raise funds to maintain the village's Bassett Rooms.
Rosemary Early, who co-ordinates the team of organisers, said: "It was a huge success.
"We had 4,000 people here, which must be a record for the event."
May Queen Sophie Tarbatt and May King Edward Ball were also crowned during the carnival, which is organised by volunteers from All Saints Church.
