Queen’s Park £2.5m revamp
News
A £2.5m refurbishment programme has been unveiled for Chesterfield’s Queen’s Park Sports Centre.
The money will see the facility updated and new activities provided.
Plans for a £50,000 investment in the community sports outreach programme – to involve residents from more deprived areas of the borough – have also be revealed.
Chesterfield Borough Council has agreed to continue to keep the running of the leisure centres and the Staveley Healthy Living Centre, under council control.
Cllr Nick Stringer, executive member for leisure, culture and tourism at Chesterfield Borough Council said: “One of our top priorities is to encourage more and more people to actively engage in sport and recreation, and what better time than the present with the London Olympics now within sight.
“Our three-stage plan is to fundamentally change how we presently manage and operate the two leisure centres, to refurbish and modernise QPSC, and to shift some of our provision to the borough’s parks and open spaces through investment in a new community sports outreach programme.”
The council is also in talks with other potential funding partners.
