Pupils in tune for charity concert

Schoolchildren will be joining forces to sing as a massed choir at a concert in aid of the charity Aquabox.

Youngsters from Darley Churchtown Primary School, Longstone Primary School and Wirksworth Junior School will be tuning up for the concert being held at Highfields School in Matlock on Sunday.

The event, which is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Wirksworth, Matlock and Bakewell, will also see performances by Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills Band and the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir.

Louise Hopkins, a member of Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills Band, is busy working with the children to help them learn the words and music in time for this weekend's show.

The Aquabox charity is a project co-ordinated by the Rotary Club of Wirksworth, and supplies fresh drinking water to people following man made and natural disasters in the form of a water purification kit.

Welfare aid including cooking equipment, materials to build a shelter and goods such as toothbrushes and soap can also be included in the boxes.

Tickets for the Sunday concert, which starts at 6pm, are priced at 10 each or 35 for a family of four and are available by telephoning 07974 230776.
