Protest walk over crash blackspot
Traffic campaigners led a protest walk through an accident blackspot near Matlock.
Residents are calling on highway bosses to take action at Starkholmes and bring in traffic restrictions and traffic calming measures as they say since the bridge in the centre of Matlock was made one-way, drivers have been using the route through the village as a rat-run.
County councillor Chris Jackson, cabinet member for highways and transport, joined Pc Jon Bewley of Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team and residents to walk along the road from Matlock Green to Willersley and identify traffic problems.
Paul Bradley, of Starkholmes Traffic Action Group, said: "We discussed all areas of concern and witnessed some of the road chaos."
Cllr Jackson added: "We had a very constructive discussion with local residents and members of the Starkholmes Traffic Action Group,
"We discussed a number of ideas including improving signs and roadmarkings. We'll now put together a proposal and share our ideas with local residents at a public meeting."
Neighbours formed STAG last year to urge Derbyshire County Council to make road improvements.
The group also has the backing of the police and Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team has made road safety at Starkholmes a priority and have been carrying out more speed checks.
