Painting for a brighter future

Artistic posters created by over 700 schoolchildren were on display in Matlock to raise money for charity.

Matlock Rotary Club hosted a primary schools poster competition as part of the Thanks for Life Rotary scheme aimed at the eradication of polio, and together with a collection at Sainsbury's in Matlock, raised over 1,200.

The paintings were on show at Matlock Imperial Rooms on Saturday and a prize-giving ceremony led by Matlock mayor Geoff Stevens, artist Geoff Kersey and Matlock Rotary president Albert Ripamonti, took place.

The winners, year one to two pupil Harrison Plumb, year three to four pupil Ben Rowson-Jones and year five to six pupil Freya Toulson, were presented with vouchers for art materials and books.

Albert Ripamonti said: "We had some excellent paintings - the standard was very high."
