Our survey says . . .
THOUSANDS of Peak District National Park residents are being given a chance to have their say on how the area is managed and what services are provided for local people.
The national park authority is this week sending out surveys to 2,700 people randomly selected from the 38,000 population.
The information gained will be used to help the authority assess the services it provides residents, see what is working well and what could be improved in the future.
Jim Dixon, chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: "If we are to reflect the priorities of local people in the decisions we make, then it is vital that we know what residents want to see.
"The survey covers a range of issues including planning, the support given to communities and local businesses and the way we deal with enquiries from members of the public.
"I hope that everyone who receives the survey will spare a few minutes to fill it in as it will help us deliver services that better meet the needs of local people.
"All the information given is entirely confidential and will not be passed on to anyone else."
The Peak District National Park Authority is responsible for many issues in the national park including planning, managing the countryside, providing support and advice to local communities, businesses and farmers and supporting work to protect historic buildings and ancient monuments.
It also helps to protect and improve the number of plants and wildlife, manages rights of way issues and restores moorlands.
Everyone who returns a survey will be entered into a prize draw to spend a day with a national park ranger, including a visit to see the former railway tunnels on the Monsal Trail, which are normally closed to the public.
