Online history at fingertips
An online guide to Derbyshire County Council's Record Office's collections is now up and running and provides brief details of the millions of documents available to view.
The guide covers every type of record held, from schools and voluntary organisations to businesses and religious groups.
Derbyshire County Council's County Archivist Margaret O' Sullivan said: "The online guide is a tremendous leap forward for us and will be a great help to researchers.
"Thousands of collections covering millions of documents are summarised in the guide which will be updated as new archives are received.
"It is intended to be as user-friendly as possibly and to make it easy to search for the information that you are interested in. "
You can search records by place name, record type or key words and search tips are included in the introductory notes.
The online guide does not include detailed information about collections, but it does include the unique reference number for the catalogue concerned.
Visitors can then view the collection in a number of different ways; in hard copy form in the Record Office's search room, online via the CALM web browser or via the Access to Archives website.
The online guide can be found at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/onlinecollectionguide
