Oliver tops at Chatsworth event
Thousands enjoyed two days of uninterrupted sunshine and world-class eventing action when Chatsworth staged its annual horse trials.
Oliver Townend (25) claimed the top section on horse Flint Curtis, plus a further win and several placings which earned him nearly 6,500 in prize money.
The Leicestershire-based rider also walked away with the Chatsworth Trophy, a magnum of champagne, Nintendo Wii and Virgin adventure day.
Sue Etherington-Smith, co-organiser of the event, said: "It has been a magical weekend. The weather was idyllic, the sporting action just amazing and the crowds were fantastic.
"We don't have final numbers in yet, but it's the largest crowd over the two days at Chatsworth I can recall.
"Thanks must go to our title sponsors Nissan and our supporting sponsors Bond Bryan and Oc (UK) Ltd who are vital to the success of the event.
"Also to our generous hosts, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and not least the army of volunteers, without whom there would be no event."
As well as the thrill of being able to get up close to world-class riders, including the Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips and Pippa Funnell, there was lots to keep the family amused, including the Chariots of Fire with fire-jumping ponies, a Punch and Judy show, dogs, hawks and ferrets.
