Murder investigation launched after Specsavers boss’s death

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a Chesterfield boss.

Rob Hurdley director at Chesterfield Specsavers, died following an incident in a Maltby pub on Sunday night.

Police believe a number of people were involved in a fight which left Mr Hurdley, 45, with a serious head injury.

He was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

South Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation.

A 35-year-old Maltby man who was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, has now been released and is on bail for public order offences.

A 30-year-old man from Maltby has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Don Jon pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, or anyone with information to call South Yorkshire Police on 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
