Mr and Mrs R. Turner, Loundsley Green

A diamond couple who first met at a packing factory have gone on to celebrate 60 years of marriage.

Ron (85) and Gladys Turner (89), of Peak View Road, Loundsley Green, Chesterfield, started courting when they met at an egg-packing factory, at Duckmanton.

Mrs Turner said: “We worked together and started courting before we were married and now we have a lovely family.”

Mr Turner, who went on to become a coalboard office worker, and Mrs Turner, who worked at Markham Colliery canteen, are parents to son David and daughter Margaret.

They also have two granddaughters, Lisa and Joy, and two grandsons, Andrew and Alan.

The couple celebrated their diamond anniversary with a family meal at The Gate, Cutthorpe, as well as a buffet days later with visiting relatives from Eastbourne.

Mrs Turner added: “We had a wonderful time and received lots of flowers and cards including one from the Queen and they brightened up our home.”
