Mr and Mrs L Ellis, Newbold

A dancing duo who waltzed into each other's lives have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Lewis and Betty Ellis, of Kirkstone Road, Newbold, met at the Victoria Ballroom, in Chesterfield, and married at St John's Church, Newbold.

The couple continued to hit the dance floor after tying the knot.

"We have danced all our married lives all over Chesterfield," said Mrs Ellis.

Mr Lewis (71) worked at Sheepbridge Engineering, first as a fitter and then inspector. When he was made redundant he set up his own driving school. Mrs Ellis (69) worked as a hairdresser.

The couple have one daughter, Vicky, and four grandchildren, Kirsty, Kayley, Kira and Joel.

They celebrated their anniversary with a surprise party organised by their daughter.

"We were picked up in a stretch limousine and had champagne and went to the Hobby Horse for an evening meal with lots of our family and friends," said Mrs Ellis."It was a complete surprise."
