For the thousands of people who live, visit and work in the Peak District, many will be familiar with the Blue John gemstone and its Castleton source at the Treak Cliff Cavern.

What many people may not be so familiar with is the foundation it has provided for one Derbyshire family business success story, which continues to grow from strength to strength, attracting the attention of Derbyshire Dales MP and Conservative Chief Whip, Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin.

Initially supplying hand-crafted product for a small number of Derbyshire jewellers using the locally sourced Blue John, C W Sellors has spent over 30 years expanding and investing in its manufacturing and retail operations to not only become an important part of the local economy, but play an influential role in the national jewellery industry.

On top of many national accolades and achievements the company continues to enjoy, C W Sellors were recently awarded runners up in the 2011 Midlands Family Business Awards ‘Business of the Year’ category.

In finding out what continues to positively drive forward the business in the most turbulent of economic times, Mr McLoughlin visited C W Sellors’ Ashbourne Workshop to meet some of the their 80 strong workforce and experience first-hand a thriving manufacturing and retail environment.

Managing Director and owner of the Business Chris Sellors said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr McLoughlin to our workshop and be able to show him first-hand what we do and how British manufacturing and job opportunities are alive and kicking in the local area.”
