Mount St Mary's hit peak achievement

A SPINKHILL college is celebrating its best ever A-level results with a record number of top grades.

Mount St Mary's achieved a pass rate of 98 per cent, of which over 25 per cent were graded A and nearly three-quarters C and above.

One pupil, Oliver Burkinshaw, achieved five As, in chemistry, maths, further maths, physics and French, and will go on to study natural sciences.

The Spinkhill teenager is keeping it in the family by following in the footsteps of his parents and brother who all went to Cambridge University.

Oliver (18), whose mum and dad met there, said: "I am ecstatic to have achieved the grades I have been working towards and am looking forward immensely to the opportunity to study at Cambridge."

Another success story was Charles Gregor MacGregor, from Matlock, who achieved three As and will go on to read physics at Durham University.

Headmaster Laurence McKell said: "I am delighted with the achievement and success of all the Mount St Mary's pupils, in particular the increase in the number of A grades and A-C grades, which gives us our best ever performance.

"What is even more pleasing is our value-added score, which reflects the wide ability level of our pupils and their individual successes. They can all be very proud of their achievements."
