Motorists delayed during snowy weather

COMMUTERS and motorists were delayed and disrupted this morning, Monday, February 6, after the weekend’s snowfall turned to perilous sludge and ice.
Some pavements and roads were left slippy by the snowfall and over night sub-zero temperatures.
The A61 southbound Dronfield Bypass into Chesterfield, was closed, while emergency services had to deal with at two road traffic collisions and there were reports of a third affecting morning commuters.
Chesterfield and Staveley firefighters attended the first collision between Sheepbridge and Whittington Moor, on the A61, about 4.18am, after two cars had collided and one male person was trapped. The casualty was freed and was treated by paramedics.
On the same stretch of road about 4.50am, Chesterfield, Staveley and Dronfield firefighters attended a four vehicle collision on the A61 with two people trapped.
Both casualties were released by emergency services and were treated by ambulance crews.
Motorists also struggled to brake along Somersall Lane, at Somersall, due to an icey and slippery road surface.
A car also went into a tree on the southbound carriageway of the A38 near Ripley about 4.42am, on Saturday, as the bad weather developed.
