A ride-out to remember two friends who were among three riders killed in a horror smash in Wingerworth last year has raised over £1000 for charity.

The Derbyshire Bikers held their second annual memorial ride on DATE, to remember North Wingfield rider Andrew Siddall and his lifelong friend Robert Newton of Boythorpe.

The pair were killed instantly on June 1, 2013, when they were hit by another rider on the A61. The third rider, David Wilson from Sheffield, also died in the crash.

The ride, which was organised by Derbyshire Bikers with Andrew’s sister, Dawn Langan and Alli Chouhan of Bikers Gearbox, saw 80 motorcycles go from Darley Dale to the Cat and Fiddle, then on to meet up at the Fishpond pub in Matlock .

Prizes for a raffle were donated by Derbyshire businesses, including Brampton Manor, The Shalimar and Gullivers Kingdom.

Dawn Langan, Andrew’s sister, said: “What this event has achieved is fantastic. I would like to thank all the individuals involved in the organisation of this event. Also to all businesses who donated prizes and to The Fishpond for hosting the event.

“It has enabled something very positive to come from the tragic accident which resulted in my brother’s death.”

The event raised £1019 for the Derbyshire, Rutland and Leicestershire Air Ambulance who were called out to the crash that claimed the riders’ lives.

Accepting the donation, Gordon Blount from the Air Ambulance, said the service – which costs £1400 to run each time it flies – receives no funding. He thanked the generousity of the riders and praised their fundraising efforts.

Adrian Langan, the brother-in-law of Andrew Siddall, added: “Plans are already underway to organise the event in 2015 where it is hoped it will be bigger and better than ever before.”
