MD’s sadness over cafe closure

THE MANAGING director of a Chesterfield cafe which was forced to shut down has told how the closure was a sign of the difficult economic climate.
MD Phil Abbott, of the Sorriso Cafe and Coffee cafe chain, was saddened when the Chesterfield venue, on Vicar Lane Shopping Centre, at Steeplegate, closed after bailiffs took possession of the goods on the premises.
He said: “I was losing money and could not afford the rent.
“I would have loved to stay because Chesterfield is a lovely town and there were lovely staff here.
“Sadly, the closure is a sign of the times but our other cafes are doing okay.”
Enforcement and collection service Rossendales left a notice in the Chesterfield Sorriso cafe explaining they are acting for the landlord’s agents Savills Commercial Ltd and now possess the contents.
The cafe is still adorned with the previous owner BB’s Coffee and Muffins’ signage but the venue has not been a BB’s cafe since October, 2009.
