Jobs to go at Losehill Hall
Losehill Hall, Castleton
JOBS will go at top outdoor centre Losehill Hall as the Peak District National Park Authority attempts to balance the books following Coalition Government funding cuts.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed that the authority’s grant will be slashed from £8.2m between 2010 and 2011 to £6.5m by 2014 to 2015.
Peak District National Park Authority bosses have responded to the 28.5 per cent budget cut over the next four years with an action plan to save more than £446,000 while “protecting essential services”.
The authority started looking for a partner to take over Losehill Hall, based in Castleton, after deciding it could no longer operate the centre as a result of the funding cuts. It has announced that the Youth Hostel Association is the preferred bidder to take over the world-renowned environmental learning and conference centre.
The authority’s decision to stop operating the hall means the equivalent of 22 full-time jobs will be lost through redeployment, redundancy or early retirement.
In addition, one full-time post will go in the ranger service, as well as three in-house design and photography positions.
Chief executive Jim Dixon said: “All sections of the public sector are facing cuts to address the budget deficit and we have to play our part. A big aspect of this involves increasing our partnership work, sharing activities, pooling resources with other organisations and widening the work of our volunteers. In addition, we want to develop a stronger commercial approach to our frontline services, increasing our income from leisure, information and recreation.”
