ASHGATE Hospice’s chief executive Kathy Hollyer is due to retire after ten years at the helm of one of the region’s most popular charities.

Kathy, 57, has helped the hospice, on Ashgate Road, Chesterfield, develop a new extension and provide wider community support for those struggling with serious illnesses as well as their families.

She said: “The staff, volunteers and the caring spirit at the hospice has never changed but what has is the size and number of people we help today.

“We’ve grown with a new extension and provide more care in people’s homes and our desire to provide as much help for patients and their families as possible is still the same.”

The mum-of-three, who is originally from Chapel-en-le-Frith, moved to Chesterfield with her husband after their University studies in London and she worked as an HR manager with Northern Foods before taking on her hospice role.

Under Kathy’s guidance, the hospice has been busy weathering Government Spending Review cuts, statutory income cuts, proposed NHS changes and financial restraints to meet annual running costs of about £5m.

But Kathy, kind-hearted volunteers and fundraisers have helped develop the hospice which now has support from ten shops, a new donation centre and many money-spinning events.

Kathy added: “My happiest memories are of the time spent with the fabulous volunteers and fundraisers.”

Kathy, who is due to retire in March 2013, is looking forward to a rest but aims to become a hospice volunteer.
