Hoping for good weather...

Concerts in Ashover Parish Hall for the past 18 months have paved the way for the village folk festival.

Spokeswoman Carolyn Pope said: "The Ashover concerts have been very successful in introducing a great variety of talented singers and musicians with music from different genres as well as introducing some up and coming young talent.

"We have had good support from a growing local audience as well as people who travel from far and wide; many of whom choose to make a weekend of it and stay locally to enjoy the village and surrounding areas.

"Ashover is a great village with a lovely community spirit, super small venues and welcoming pubs."

"All we need now is plenty of good weather and lots of enthusiastic supporters to support the festival," she said.

The organisation behind the festival, Xeli Promotions, staged a similar event in Hady, Chesterfield, two years ago.

Carolyn said: "Although that festival was not a financial success, it was greatly enjoyed by all those who attended. Perhaps one of our mistakes was to have too many top named artists which gave fantastic performances but with heavy performance fees.

"We also found that over the weekend some of the real stars were our up and coming young bands.

"The quality and versatility of so many artists is why this year the Ashover Well Dressed Festival will be concentrating on giving a platform to many of the country's best up and coming young artists."

Licensing difficulties in 2007 forced Xeli Promotions to relocate its first festival from Handley, near Ashover, to St Peter and St Paul's School, in Hady.
