High–tech defence

editorial image

A campaign has put four by four owners in the driving seat when it comes to protecting their property.

Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team offered to mark Land Rover Defenders with a special liquid, giving their owners piece of mind.

A total of 49 vehicles were marked with the substance, which contains tiny chips that have a unique reference number that can be read and matched on a database if the vehicle is ever stolen.

Defenders are often targeted by thieves and their parts stripped and sold on.

Sergeant Andy Wordsworth, in charge of the Bakewell team, said: “These kits are absolutely fantastic, letting us mark many different sections of the vehicle, from doors to spare wheels and parts of the engine.”
