Gritters take to the roads as snow falls across parts of Derbyshire
Forecasters are predicting snow for Derbyshire.
Snow is falling across parts of Derbyshire this afternoon.
Up to 5cm of snow is expected to fall on higher ground, including in the Peak District.
A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “We gritted all primary routes and secondary routes this morning ahead of the forecast snow.
“Our gritters will be out patrolling higher routes from 3pm.
“We have provisional plans to grit all primary routes across the county from around midnight but this may change depending on the conditions.”
A Highways Agency spokesman urged motorists to check local weather and travel advice before setting off, to heed warnings on electronic message signs and to drive “in an appropriate way for the conditions, leaving extra time for journeys and extra room for braking”.
It has been a wintry two weeks for Derbyshire with icy conditions causing chaos on the county’s roads and some areas seeing the first snowfall of the season.
If it snows in your area, send your experiences and pictures to Derbyshire Times reporter Michael Broomhead by emailing michael.broomhead@jpress.co.uk or tweeting @micklesb.
